Science is Fun!

We love going to the local library! The girls get bundles of books, and we finish all of them in about  a day or two. The girls like the self-check out. This past week we've been studying the solar system, so we had a lot of good books about the planets, stars, and the cycle of the moon.
Besides doing written work and reading about the solar system, we went to the Air and Space Museum last Monday. We watched an IMAX movie about Journey to Mars. We made a solar system mobile using cut out pictures of the planets.
Then on Friday we made the solar system with sugar cookies.
It was a huge mess and great fun! Each planet was cut to size, then baked, cooled, and iced and decorated according to what it should look like.
Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. We also included some stars, our moon, and the asteroid belt separating the solid planets from the ones made of gas. Jupiter's red spot was made from a hot tamale.
The girls memorized "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos" to help with memorizing the planets order as they orbit the Sun. The best part was eating the solar system!!
  These three are a blast!
Geneva helped bake oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for one of
Jesse's meetings. She loves our new step stool (It's not new by any means, but new to us. It used to be Aunt Dottie's).
Maddie had a great time being the "Mystery Reader" at ICS- it was so fun to see her old classmates. She read a Piggie and Gerald book- they are so funny!
Sweet Savannah sleeping! She has a little cut on her head from falling head first into a brick stair. DON'T WALK WITH YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS. That's all I have to say about that.
